Blue Day for Texas

What a day! Actually, what a last couple of days. I just watched the Duke/Texas game, and this match-up was so important for a couple reasons:

- Duke and Texas are ranked 1 and 2 respectively
- Everyone and their brother hates Duke
- Both teams were unbeaten at 8-0
- Some critics contend Texas is better than Duke and should be #1

WELL BITCHES, YOU CAN SHUT UP NOW BECAUSE DUKE SLAUGHTERED TEXAS 97-66.

(pre-game write-up)

Yes, you read that correctly. The #1 team in the nation beat the #2 team in the nation by 31 points. How glorious. My Saturday is now perfect. Also, JJ Redick had a career high 41 points. No Duke player has scored more than forty points since Danny Ferry did it 15 years ago, to this day. JJ is amazing. I am a little concerned about the comparisons to Shane Battier, who is quite possibly the best Duke basketball player ever, but there are definitely elements in JJ's style of play that are reminiscent of Shane's days in a Blue Devil uniform.

Drake and I were kind of talking about Duke players and their NBA careers. There are few, if any, Duke players who have gone on to have highly successful, championship-blessed professional careers. Jason Williams probably would have, if he had not had that motorcycle accident a couple years ago, and Chris Duhon and Shane Battier are having success as individuals, as well as Carlos Boozer, but they are by no means the superstars they were when they wore Duke uniforms. I don't think is a bad thing. Coach K consistently recruits really good players, but they are solid team players. He doesn't go for the flashy guys who would no doubt be ball-hogs, because that is not the style of basketball Duke plays. Yes, JJ Redick is certainly a star on the team, but he developed into that role, while still learning from Daniel Ewing and Chris Duhon. Few Duke players leave before they graduate, and I think this speaks highly of Coach K and the school as well. He isn't just grooming these guys to be basketball players, education is important as well and he stresses that. He is one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time, thus why he was chosen to coach the Olympic team in 2008. Haters can shut their mouths for a little while at least.

In the world of college football however, news is just as glorious. One of the biggest douche bag coaches in the game was fired this past week and he goes by the name of Gary Barnett. Thank God this happened, though it is something that should have been a long time ago when all the shit came out about the female kicker and those allegations. Bottom line, Barnett is an asshole and deserves to never coach again. He deserves to turn out like Ben Stiller's character at the end of Dodgeball. There are truly no words to convey how much contempt I have for this sub-human. He is disgusting, he is just, ugh.

We went out last night to celebrate graduation a little early, since Teetz will not be able to attend. He bought me lots of drinks. It was great.

HUSKERS WIN! HUSKERS WIN! HUSKERS WIN!

This is a big deal for sure, it's about time we can once again say "Fuck you!" to Colorado. I have talked about this before, but CU is one of the most tasteless and disgusting programs in college football. Overall they are just ridiculous and today the Cornhuskers beat them 30-3 to thwart their chances of playing against Texas in the Big 12 Championship. I had to go to work before the game was over, but what I got to see (the first half at least) was awesome. I wonder where this team has been all season. I think maybe it is because the players hate CU that much too that they really gave it all they had and decided even if we weren't going to the Big 12 title game, we sure as fuck were not going to let the shitheads from Colorado go either. This is how classless they are: the student section had to be cleared out for throwing shit on the field. Granted, our student section did the same, as I talked about in a previous post, and in that moment we were no better than Colorado fans, but ours was a one-time (hopefully) thing, whereas this is a constant from Colorado. Extra measures were taken to ensure it didn't get out of hand because of what happened when we played Oklahoma. I feel bad, however, for all the Husker fans who will no doubt have their tires slashed and car windows broken - a staple in Boulder. Win or lose, those worthless fans love defacing any and every piece of property with Nebraska, NU or Huskers on it, as seen in their ginormous win over us back in 2001, 62-36. Those fuckers were pretty blue though when we went to the Rose Bowl anyway. All in all, Colorado sucks and we are and always will be better than them.

Why Kanye West Is Better Than 50 Cent

I always knew 50 Cent sucked. Aside from 'P I M P', I have never liked a single one of his songs. I think Dre and Em could have found a much better successor to their rap empire than this mediocre (at best) sloppy excuse for a performer. I never fully realized just how incredibly lame 50 was though, until reading this MSN News post, '50 Cent Disagrees With Kanye West' this evening. It's not necessarily this particular topic that I found so ridiculous, either way President Bush sucks, but it's the comments near the end of the article that detail the last time these two had words to say about one another where 50 says, "After 50 Cent, (hip-hop fans) was looking for something non-confrontational, and they went after first thing that came along. That was Kanye West, and his record took off." Are you serious? I'm not even a huge fan of Kanye really, and I know that he has more talent in his pinky toe than 50 could ever dream. His record took off because he is talented, not because of anything 50 did. In addition, here is another testament to 50's intelligence. There was some controversy going on about the billboards for his new movie (insert loud raucous laughter here) "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" and how they were posted near schools and daycares. Many of them were removed, and do you know what 50's response was? It was this brilliance: "It's okay if they take the ones down by their schools. The kids will go home and see the ones overlooking their house." Wow. And he wonders why he's been shot so many times.

Oh The Horror

First, before I start ranting about the suckitude of today's football game against Pitt, let me clarify something: a lot of people have been asking if Drake and I are engaged because of some things that were said recently in a few of my posts. No, we are not engaged, I would be a lot less subtle about it if that were the case. However, I don't doubt that it will happen sometime in the next 6 - 8 months. It is something we have talked about a lot recently, and this has to do with me 'The One' post I did a week or so ago. If you found your One, you know. I found my One, and that's that, regardless of how long we have been together.

Now, on to the bullshit: I long for the glory days of Husker Football, when Redouts meant something, when touchdown balloons were sent flying on the first drive of the game, when the band played our school song after touchdowns. Now they play our school song after first downs because touchdowns by the offense have become so rare. If you thought our first game (a win) against Maine was horrible, we somewhat redeemed ourselves by the outstanding performance by the Blackshirts last weekend against Wake Forest. I particularly liked when Bullocks literally ripped the ball from the running back (I think he was an RB) and scored a touchdown. Now, against Pitt, of all teams, our lone score game from our quarterback, who scrambled to even get that. Honestly, today it was not a matter of the Huskers winning today, it was simply that Pitt lost. That's how bad the game was. I just miss the days, like my freshman year and even sophomore year where we rolled people. Granted, my freshman year ended wth a loss at Colorado and then in the Rose Bowl to Miami, but that was also the last class recruited by Tom Osborne...

...and as a sidenote, while Osborne may have been one of the greatest football coached ever, coaching and politics are not the same thing. I am not sure why everyone thinks he will be so great as governor. I know this is almost blasphemy on my part, but seriously, no people, no. Tom should not be governor...

...and also speaking of the Colorado football program, they are quite possibly the most class-less program in the nation. In the season I mentioned where they beat us horribly and went on to win the Big 12 over Texas, they actually had the nerve to put the scoreboard of the game against us on their championship rings. How disgusting, how ridiculous. Oh, and then there are the "minor" incidents involving the drugs, alcohol, and rape that have been going on for who knows how long. Gary Barnett should be strung up and his program should be used to make an example for everyone. College athletes are still college students and should not be treated any differently, I don't care how amazing they are...

...Now back to my rant. Sinley and I for sure are getting t-shirts made to proclaim our "love" for Coach Douche McDouche, and by "love" I mean "contempt" and by "Coach Douche McDouche" I mean Coach Bill Callahan. The shirts are going to be hott. You'll just have to wait and see them, but most likely we will have them by the Oklahoma game. I just can not support a man, no matter how much I love this program, when after a year coaching here he is asked what he likes best about Nebraska and the best repsonse he can give is, "My office." Talk about blatant disrespect for a state that is blindly following him in hopes we can return to the powerhouse we once were. I hate to say it for al of you who really are blinded, but that's not going to happen under Callahan.
